What if the knowledge of the world fails? What if having the answers doesn't matter?

Parsinomady is a game about going to work in the morning. It's technically a tie-in with "Icebound Machines" from 2021/2022, but the connections are very light. The game was made for Scream Jam 2023, in about a week, while incidentally also matching the themes of Jame Gam: Halloween, and a few other Halloween jams. It makes extensive use of open assets. See the "Credits" section in game for details.

The Mac build is untested, but the other ones work. The web build in particular should work in any semi-modern browser with HTML5 support, including mobile ones.

Controls

The game is entirely controlled by left-clicking. (Or touching, on a touchscreen.)

  • To move your character, left-click on empty space.
  • To interact with an object, left-click on it, then select the action from the pop-up menu. (Or touch elsewhere on the screen to dismiss it.)
  • To advance dialogue, left-click on the box.
  • To choose an option, left-click on the option.
  • You can pause and save the game and change settings with the MENU button in the top right.
  • You can also use the lightbulb icon in this menu to high-light any interactive hotspots in the current room. Because pixel hunting is bad design. Click and hold, or just tap once if on mobile.

Content note

Depending on the actions you take in this game, you may or may not encounter the following: Gore, harm to eyes and teeth, self-injury, disease, social decay, state oppression, awkward meetings, trouble breathing, being mistreated by authority figures, and nightmares.

This blends into body horror at times, depending on your choices.

There are no jumpscares. Objects may appear and sounds may play unexpectedly, but there's not going to be a zombie going arglarglarg.

The whole thing is more about anxiety than outright horror, but there's some grisly stuff in it as well.

Spoiler

There's two endings. The mechanics are deliberately a little confusing, but there's hints. If you wish to be spoiled, go to https://rot13.com/ and paste in this text:

Install instructions

Download, unpack, and run the executable file. There are no external dependencies.

Depending on your OS and/or antivirus situation, you may have to give permission for the game to run. It does not touch any part of your OS other than %APPDATA%. If you do get a warning, you can run the browser build instead, since that's sandboxed.

I really loved this. The concern-filled unease of the mental blocking and the sheer dread of the nightmares (especially rounding that corner to see the pliers and just... knowing.) was exceptional. The world and it's state is really intriguing to me, I feel I'll be thinking a lot about it for the next while, especially after going and playing Icebound Machines as well.

All in all, this was amazing! I'm so glad to have stumbled upon this by chance. I hope you have a great day!

Loved it, It's always great to see a new game from you. It wasn't very scary but the "Blocking stuff out" bits where pretty unnerving in a good way. The body horror wasn't all that horrifying (it was more comforting actually, but that is probably just me) but others might feel differently.

Hey, thank you for the kind words! The game walks sort of a weird line when it comes to tone, since it's the seemingly "good" path that's unnerving, and the seemingly "bad" one (with the body horror) that ends on an ambiguously hopeful note. I'm glad if the experiment worked out, haha.

Hey! I can't get pass a certain part because interacting with the boss at a certain point doesn't do anything. Never mind, I fixed it by going to the menu and back into the game.

Also found a glitch where I can moonwalk near the... er, end of Ending B!

Also, this cutesy background overlaps with the normal office.

Hey, thanks for the comment! Two of these are known issues, yeah. The boss has an incorrectly set trigger, so an interaction doesn't fire. And warping to a certain position doesn't properly block movement, which can lead to the moonwalking glitch. I'll push a fixed version once the jam voting periods are over.

The cutesy background persisting is actually deliberate, but I can see how it could be misleading. I'll think about making a small visual change to it. Thanks for checking out the game!
